Sherlock Holmes card game
I can't believe that I've been playing this clever card game for twenty-five years! (Though my copy is in a rather different-looking box.) It starts when "The game's afoot!" and ends with the arrest (or escape) of the Villain. If things get really tough, there may be more than one Villain involved.
Play is pretty simple: each card played shows which cards can follow it, with the next player picking up a card if they can't play. The card play provides bags of atmosphere as Holmes and Watson take trains and Hansom cabs in pursuit of clues. As the game goes on, players will work out who has the Villain – which is where a "Thick Fog" can be very useful.
At the end of the hand, players score points for the cards they have left, deducting the Villain if they made the arrest (or he escaped). After as many hands as players, the player with the fewest points wins. It's an amusing, quick-playing game that I enjoy.
For 3-8 players, aged 10+, playing time 60 minutes
Sherlock Holmes card game was designed by Roger Heyworth and is published by Gibsons Games
