The 2018 Pax game is about the nineteenth century struggle to abolish slavery – or the slave trade at least. Players represent the forces behind this: evangelical Christians, philanthropists and the British Empire (guilty conscience, anyone?). Their goals are the same, but they have different opportunities and strengths and, in the competitive game, there is only one winner.

Players deploy their different kinds of pawns around the world to disrupt and destroy the slavers' business, to educate and enlighten governments and peoples, and to spread the Christian message. However, all of these need funds and a key element of players ' plans is ensuring they have the money to carry them out.

Pax Emancipation builds on features introduced in Pax Renaissance while introducing more. Thus buying and playing cards (people, events and ideas) are important actions, but players must also remove 'barrier' chips and deploy pawns on the map. The game can be played as a full co-operative or in co-operative-competitive mode and there's also a solitaire option.

For 1-3 players, aged 14+, playing time 1-2 hours

Pax Emancipation was designed by Phil Eklund and is published by Sierra Madre/Ion Game Design
