David Parlett’s classic Hare and Tortoise is a race not just to reach the end of the track, but also to eat all your carrots and lettuces! Of course, eating your lettuces gives you more carrots, which may be a problem. Some arithmetic required, but a game that should be in every household.

The latest edition is from the veteran British games publisher, Gibsons. It comes in a glossy black box, but note that it's not shrink-wrapped.

For 2-6 players, aged 12+, playing time 45 mins
