Caesar! Sieze Rome In 20 Minutes (2nd/square edition)

The subtitle, "Seize Rome in 20 minutes", gives away that this is Paolo Mori's development of his earlier (2019) Blitzkrieg! (WW2 in 20 minutes). In fact, it plays rather differently from Blitzkrieg!. The players are Caesar and Pompey, confronting each other in one of the Roman republic's civil wars. They do this by taking control of the provinces around the Mediterranean, using their available 'influence' chips.

This is where it gets tricky as players only have a few chips at a time and they're drawn at random (the same mechanism is used in Blitzkrieg!). There's also a clever difference between playing the last chip on a province, which gets one reward, and controlling it, which gets another.

It's a really clever two-player tussle, with a useful solitaire option for learning how to play. (The solitaire opponent – Crassus – hasn't proved particularly competent.)
