Aleph Null

I couldn't resist this latest solitaire game from Tony Boydell (following his earlier Lux Aeterna) as it's inspired by a James Blish novel, Black Easter (or Faust Aleph-Null) – "a gripping story of primal evil", that I remember from my teenage years.

The story is that, as a successful magician, you have been commissioned to release the demons of Hell "for aesthetic reasons"! In game terms, this means playing all the cards to culminate in the summoning. Get it wrong and the demons will exact their revenge. And it can go wrong in several different ways – it's up to you to make use of the cards as you play them if you want to avoid this dreadful fate.

As with Lux Aeterna, Tony has done a good job of maintaining the tension and right up to the end you can't be sure of winning.

For 1 player, aged 10+, playing time 15-30 minutes
