Wormlord
One of the designers roped me into a game of this at Spiel '19 and I was in hysterics for the ten minutes it took to play. I picked up my own copy and it got a lot of play at Swiggers games club and conventions after that.
The worms of the title are fat shoelaces in player's colours. The game is played in real time: knot a worm and drop it on the board to claim a square. Un-knot and give back an opponent's worm if there's one there. First to simultaneously occupy three of the four objectives near the centre of the board wins! There's a bit more to it than that, to stop it becoming a complete free-for-all.
The result is several minutes of frenzied activity. At first you think no-one's going to win. Then somebody does! It's just great fun.
For 2-8 players, aged 6+, playing time 10 minutes
Wormlord was designed by Jonathan Bittner and Andrew Cedotal and is published by Sit Down!
