March of Progress
This card game charts progress through warfare across the ages. Each scenario is set in a different era, using the same core set of cards – with era-specific additions – for players' actions. The introduction is the Thirty Years War with other scenarios taking players through the Napoleonic Wars and both World Wars.
The key to winning battles, I've found, is manoeuvring to outnumber your opponent as combat is simple (and a draw is bad for both sides).
For 2 players, aged 12+, playing time 30 minutes
The March of Progress was designed by Alan Paull and is published by Surprised Stare
